Northern Panhandle Conservation District Community Garden
The NPCD built a fence around the outdoor community garden to protect the fruits and vegetables from animals before harvest. The community garden at the NPCD office is a collaborative effort involving the WVCA, NPCD, and NRCS. It has blossomed into a district-wide program to showcase the potential for extended growing season, raised bed gardening, and educate and engage our community. The raised bed garden, a prime example of urban agriculture, demonstrates how one can cultivate more locally grown vegetables in a small space. The district operates a 24 x 36 high tunnel as part of this garden, further enhancing the educational efforts. This garden, a testament to our community's commitment, has helped produce over 1,500 pounds of vegetables, including cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and cabbage donated to local Ohio and Marshall Counties soup kitchens.
