Marshall County Wastewater Treatment Plant Enviroscape

A grant from the Northern Panhandle Resource Conservation and Development Council helped the City of Moundsville purchase a 3D Interactive EnviroScape Ecological Restoration table, which was recently used in an educational demonstration at Central Elementary School. Storm Water Coordinator Joe Smith and City Manager Rick Healy brought the hands-on tool to third-grade classes to teach students about the importance of ecological restoration in Moundsville’s watershed, focusing on wetland and floodplain management and its role in reducing flooding and pollution.

The students participated in an interactive exercise where they added “pollution” to a model town and simulated rainfall to see how contaminants spread into the water table. The activity helped students understand how pollution impacts the environment and public health. After the presentation, Smith provided each student with a watershed activity packet to reinforce the lessons learned.
